The collections at The American Silver Museums are constantly revealing new information!
We’d been collecting Meriden Silver Plate Co.’s ‘Morning Glory’ pattern for over fifteen years but could not ascertain a date of production. That question was answered when we paired ‘Morning Glory’ with the candle holders we exhibited earlier (# 3285 – pictured here) on our ‘Candle Holder’ page. Morning Glory candle holders are pattern #3253.
Clearly, they’re from the same catalogue.
The #3285 pattern also comes with a patent date November 1906.
We had guessed that ‘Morning Glory’ was likely to have been produced after 1895. Items in our collections from the James W Tufts catalogues of 1896 – 1900 boasted movement towards Art Nouveau stylings . We will now begin our search for the 1906 Meriden Silver Co. catalogues to verify our findings.
