This rarely found candle holder was manufactured by the Meriden Britannia Company. Meriden Britannia was second only to Tiffany in quality and style. The company merged with several other silver plate manufacturers to become the International Silver Company.
The bobeche on this candle holder is not the original.
The original was unfortunately damaged beyond repair.

We now present a pair of Reed & Barton candle holders or flower vases. These can still be found with the original glass inserts that made them into flower vases (albeit small vases). The inserts were a frosted pink glass with gold embellishment.
These candle holders were found in England. It is unlikely that they are English, because they are unmarked. Given the style and quality of these pieces, we can reasonably attribute the manufacturer as Meriden Britannia.
These lovely candle holders are marked November 3, 1906 and were once owned by
famed American actor and comedian Pat Morita. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Morita

With this exhibit, we step slightly away from being just a silver museum. Manufacturers of mass produced metal hollowware responded to the trends coming from the Arts & Crafts Movement.
Bronze finishes complimented the furnishings being produced by Gustav Stickley and others. Rarely do we find the same item in both silver and bronze finishes. ‘We aim to please!’ was clearly the motto of Rogers Smith (who most likely were now part of Meriden Britannia and International Silver Cos.).
We present these candle holders in both finishes. The designs that these items boast are very architectural, and it is not unusual to find the quatrefoil on the candle’s ‘cup’ ornamenting an office building in many major North American cities.
